The Calyx Institute is hiring a Membership Coordinator to play a key role in communicating with and facilitating support for our members, expanding our membership list, and streamlining our membership management processes. The Membership Coordinator will represent Calyx through professional, responsive communication with the members who support the Institute, reach out to potential new members at events, conferences, and other forms of outreach, and will maintain the membership database and assist with administrative tasks. As a small but growing nonprofit, Calyx is looking for someone who can work both independently and in close collaboration with our team.
Calyx is a not-for-profit education and research organization devoted to studying, testing, developing, and implementing privacy technology and tools to educate the public and promote free speech, free expression, civic engagement and privacy rights on the internet and in the mobile telephone industry.
The mission of The Calyx Institute is to educate the public about privacy in digital communications and to develop and test building blocks that internet users can incorporate into their daily internet activities, and service providers can use to build “privacy by design” into their service offerings. Calyx offers a range of tools and technologies for secure communications to members, including private online messaging through Jabber/XMPP, wireless internet hotspots, Tor onion services, and more.
This is a full-time, salaried position located at our Brooklyn, New York office ( https://industrycity.com ) The salary will be $37,000 - $45,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Communicate promptly with new and existing members via email and phone in response to queries, questions, and requests for assistance.
Increase membership engagement by encouraging and facilitating employer gift-matching for member donors.
Mail membership benefits packages.
Answer member questions and facilitate technical support for members.
Represent Calyx to potential and current members through external communications, trainings and educational outreach, and tabling at conferences.
General administrative tasks.
Excellent customer service and organization skills.
Excellent written and oral communication ability.
A track record demonstrating the ability to process work quickly and efficiently with careful attention to detail.
Willingness to take ownership of work responsibilities.
Previous administrative, customer service, or help desk experience is a plus.
Proficiency with word processors and spreadsheets.
Familiarity with CiviCRM and Response Tracker a plus, but not required.
Interest in learning about privacy and security technology for activists, journalists, and the general public.
